The Supervisory Board of Nordic Tankers A/S has appointed the 34-year-old Jens Pontoppidan as new executive director-CEO with effect from 1 May 2009. Thus, the future management of the company fell into place, and Flemming K. Sørensen can withdraw as interim CEO and resume his position as Deputy Chairman of Supervisory Board after the next board meeting.
Jens Pontoppidan has extensive experience in the shipping industry and especially the market for product tankers. He has been employed by Torm for 12 years, including general manager in Torms branch in Tokyo from 2003-06 and later as responsible for the establishment and operation of derivatives trading department of Torm’s tanker division. During the last few years, Jens Pontoppidan has operated his own investment business in the shipping.
Nordic Tankers chairman, Klaus Kjærulff says in connection with the appointment, that there have been many highly qualified candidates, which he takes as an indication that the company is perceived as both serious and with an exciting future.
"I am sure that Jens Pontoppidan with his considerable experience, including the product tanker market, can bring Nordic and its shareholders significant value and that he is the right person to implement our new strategy", he said.
